The Passage Between Seasons

Pisgah National Forest | North Carolina

Weathered stone bridge over a mountain stream surrounded by golden autumn foliage in the Pisgah National Forest.

As I meandered along the winding mountain road, I took in all of the sights, smells, and sounds of fall. Pulling over to hike to Moore Falls, I found myself with both my camera and my journal in hand, ready to share in this experience.

“The Passage Between Seasons”

The green has not quite let go.
The gold has just begun.

Beneath the bridge,
the water keeps moving,
carrying a leaf
beyond what I can see.

I wait here and linger,
where one season
has begun to become another.

I know this feeling.
It’s the feeling of something shifting
before I have a name for it,
before I know
what comes next.

For now, there is light
among the changing leaves,
and beauty enough
to let me stay awhile
with my uncertainty.
